How it works
Three steps to knowing
what's in your product
1

Scan the barcode

Point your camera at any barcode on a skincare, makeup, or personal care product. BeautyBrief identifies it in seconds.

2

Get the full breakdown

See every ingredient explained in plain English — what it does, whether it's a concern for your skin type, and if it's on your personal allergen list.

3

Scan with confidence

Safety scores, allergen alerts, and expiry decoding all in one place. Your profile stays on your device — no account, no data sharing.

Features
Everything you need to
shop smarter

Barcode Scanner

Instantly identify any skincare or beauty product from its barcode. Works on thousands of brands across cleansers, moisturisers, serums, sunscreen, and more.

Personalised Allergen Alerts

Set up your allergen and sensitivity profile once. BeautyBrief will flag any flagged ingredient on every product you scan — before you buy or apply.

Expiry Date Decoder

Can't read the batch code? BeautyBrief decodes manufacturing dates and period-after-opening symbols so you always know if a product is still safe to use.

Safety Scores

Each product is scored across multiple dimensions: overall safety, irritancy, fragrance load, pregnancy safety, and environmental impact. At a glance.

Skin Type Matching

Tell BeautyBrief your skin type and concerns — dry, oily, sensitive, acne-prone, and more. Every scan is personalised to what actually matters for your skin.

Scan History

Every product you scan is saved to your personal history. Review what you've checked, track what you're using, and compare products side by side.

Common questions
BeautyBrief pulls ingredient data from multiple verified databases including Open Beauty Facts and INCI databases. Accuracy depends on the product being registered in these databases. For the most reliable information, always cross-reference with the physical product label. BeautyBrief is an informational tool and does not replace professional advice.
BeautyBrief works best with skincare, makeup, and personal care products that have a standard EAN or UPC barcode. This includes cleansers, moisturisers, serums, sunscreen, foundations, lip products, hair care, and more. Coverage is broadest for major brands sold in Australia, the US, and Europe.
Yes. Your allergen profile, skin type, and scan history are stored locally on your device only. BeautyBrief does not require an account, does not sell your data, and does not send your personal profile to any server. Community posts are the only content that leaves your device, and you control what you share.
No. BeautyBrief is an informational tool only. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical or dermatological advice. Always consult a qualified professional for skin concerns, diagnosed allergies, or medical conditions. The safety assessments in the app are general informational estimates, not clinical determinations.
If a product isn't found, you can report it directly from the app. We regularly expand our database coverage. You can also use the photo scan feature to photograph the ingredient list on the packaging and BeautyBrief will attempt to read and analyse it using optical character recognition.
BeautyBrief is free to download. Core features including barcode scanning, ingredient breakdown, allergen alerts, and scan history are available on the free plan. A BeautyBrief Pro subscription unlocks additional features. You can try the app fully before deciding.
